Find a percentage of an amount, part-to-whole percentage, original whole, and percentage increase or decrease. See the calculation without saving your inputs.

Non-negative inputs with up to 6 decimal places; percentages above 100% are allowed. Results round to the nearest 0.000001, not a currency-rounding rule.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose the question before entering the two numbers. For 20% of 250, select percentage of a number: 20 × 250 ÷ 100 = 50. A percentage can exceed 100; 150% of 200 is 300.
  2. To express a part as a percentage, divide part by whole and multiply by 100: 30 out of 120 is 25%. To recover the whole, use part ÷ percentage × 100: if 30 represents 25%, the whole is 120.
  3. For percentage change, enter the new value followed by the original: (new − original) ÷ original × 100. From 100 to 120 is a 20% increase; from 120 to 100 is about a 16.666667% decrease because the baseline changes.
  4. Arabic and Persian keyboard digits are accepted and displayed as 0–9. Enter up to 6 decimal places without thousands separators or a % sign. Exact integer ratios are rounded once to 6 display places, with ties away from zero. Values below display precision can appear as 0.

A few useful answers

What is the difference between percentage change and percentage points?

A rate moving from 20% to 25% rises by 5 percentage points, but its relative increase is 25%: (25 − 20) ÷ 20 × 100. In change mode, enter 25 and 20 for relative change; percentage-point difference is simply 25 minus 20.

Why can entering 0 leave the result undefined?

Zero is valid as a part or new value, and 0% of a number is 0. However, the whole in ratio mode, percentage in whole mode, and original in change mode must be positive because they are denominators. Division by 0 is not replaced with a misleading number.

Can I use it to find a sale price?

Percentage-of-amount mode gives the discount amount only: 20% of 250 is 50, leaving a sale price of 200. Use the linked discount calculator for final prices, savings and successive discounts. This tool does not add or extract tax.

Are my numbers saved or sent to a server?

No. Calculation stays in your browser. Inputs are not stored or added to URLs or analytics. Copying and printing happen only when you choose them.
